Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a License?

Anyone over the age of 16 is required to possess a valid NYS Fishing License. Licenses can be purchased online, at many sporting goods stores and most Walmart locations. Please purchase all licenses ahead of time and keep them readily available during your trip.

What Should I wear?

Please dress appropriately to be outside in winter conditions; Warm winter clothes, waterproof boots, hat, gloves and sunglasses. Ice grippers for your boots are also highly recommended. Don’t be afraid to pack extra layers or spare clothes even if you leave them in the car. Nothing ruins a day faster than wet, cold clothes/feet!

How far will we walk?

All travel for guests will be on foot unless other arrangements have been previously arranged with your guide. The location, target species, ice/snow conditions, size and ability level of the group will all play a part in deciding this. If you have concerns please ask ahead of time- we can usually plan an enjoyable trip, regardless of limitations, if we know ahead of time.

*If the weather conditions or makeup of the group dictates that a large shelter or other excess gear is required for your trip, your guide may utilize an ATV or Snowmobile, when safe to do so, on certain bodies of water. These machines are not designed to carry passengers- guests will not be permitted to operate or ride on them.

Are you licensed?

I am a Licensed Outdoor Guide through New York State DEC for both hunting and fishing with a certification to use boats and canoes while guiding. I am also Red Cross certified in First Aid, CPR and AED resuscitation.

Do you Clean the Fish?

Cleaning fish, especially in large numbers can be very labor intensive. While I can not commit to cleaning all your fish, I am happy to show you how to do one or two so that you know how to prepare your catch for the frying pan.

What are your terms and conditions?

Cancellations 30+ days prior to your trip or cancelled by your guide due to unsafe conditions, extreme weather, illness or other uncontrollable circumstances will be refunded in whole or applied to a future date. Cancellations within 30 days of your trip are non-refundable.

What types of payment do you accept?

Can I bring my Dog?

While we are dog lovers too and our dog Moose loves to join us on occasion. Having a dog on the ice requires a list of additional gear and precautions- for that reason we ask that you leave rover home. Trust me when I say, that untangling an excited dog from 100 yards of frozen fishing line isn’t any fun!

Do you allow alcohol?

Guests 21+ are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. We ask that you consume them in moderation- we are a guide service not a babysitter.

What type of warranty do you provide (on custom work)?

Any of my rods and/or repairs are 100% hand made to order. If you ever encounter an issue that is due to poor workmanship I will make it right. I cannot be responsible for misused, abused or broken items, though I will help to repair them, when possible, at a reasonable cost.
